Patient Care Technician

The Patient Care Technician (PCT) provides hands-on assistance in serving the basic needs of patients in a hospital setting. The PCT will perform bathing, feeding, catheter care, safety checks, and ensure patient room cleanliness. The PCT will also obtain EKG readings, monitor vital signs, and provide phlebotomy procedures. Ethical decision-making will provide patient-centered care and compassionate support to families. (3 lecture hours, 3 lab hours, 6 clinical hours)

Prerequisite: NURSA 1105 with a C or better within 3 years of course start, or active Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license; SURGT 1000 with a C or better, or equivalent or concurrent enrollment in SURGT 1000; and consent of instructor (health requirements must be cleared prior to first day of class).
